Dirt Road Gypsy – Amy Winn

Miss Amy  IMG_9769

A 23 year old go getter currently residing in College Station, TX. Yep, she’s an Aggie!

After college Amy worked for Maroon Weekly as their Layout Editor for their newspaper publication in the spring of 2016. She is currently interning at High Cotton Promotions as a Media Intern! This gal grew up around Corpus Christi, Texas in a farming community. Country from the roots and blessed by the grace of God. She values her connection to the country, nature and wildlife. Growing up and living twenty minutes from town, she felt connected to the environment around her.

“Plus I got to see the stars every night, and a lightening show free from city lights whenever it would rain.”

Classy country. Daring but always caring. Sweet and strong.

This Dirt Road Gypsy has a heart of gold and is probably one of the sweetest individuals you could ever meet! A down to earth personality and the ability to pull off multiple styles, she’s a real homegrown honey.

The best way to describe my personal style and myself is that I am country girl with a classy city girl combination. I am not a pampered princess, I am a dirt road princess. I will forever be a Texas girl!

Can you tell me a little bit about your background?

I am a big animal lover (I know that sound so cliché) but it’s the truth. Now that I no longer rodeo, I have put my focus onto other hobbies and lifestyles such as working out and becoming the best version of myself. My Black Mouth Cur, Tank is very special to me and has become my whole world. Besides being a “college dog” he also has a real job as a blood trailing dog. If a dog is a consider as a ‘hobby’ he is a FULL TIME hobby.

I grew up rodeoing and competing in my main events barrels and poles. I went to the National High School Rodeo Finals 3 times, once in the 7th grade and twice in high school, my sophomore and junior years. My junior year I ended up 5th in the nation in Pole Bending.

I also grew up around hunting my entire life. My dad is a big time hunter therefore making me a big hunter as well. I have been blessed to have taken a hunting trip to East London, South Africa and shot some big plains game. It was a great experience!!

Other think that tends to surprise some people is that I am big into guns, another a hobby of mine is shooting long range rifles at targets.

What does having a Gypsy Soul mean to you?

To me it means being your own person and not letting anyone change the REAL YOU. Being strong and knowing who you are, your worth, your identity. It also means to be an independent strong woman, it’s about knowing where you stand with yourself in the walk of life, knowing that you can conquer anything that life throws at you.

Do you have a “tribe” of friends or are you more of a lone wolf?

Oh I am definitely not a lone wolf. My friends are like my family and my best friends. I consider some of them like my brothers and sisters.

Do you consider yourself adventurous? If so, in what ways?

I consider myself to be very adventurous and outdoorsy-type woman. I LOVE to hunt and shoot Long-range rifles. I also love exploring different terrains that some may not even know exist. I am also a bit of a daredevil. I love to do things that some may consider scary for example like jumping 855 ft. off a building on a vertical zip line in Las Vegas.

What sets you apart from others and makes you unique?

I’ve always loved and lived by the quote “I love not being what people expect me too be.” It is so true in my walk of life, many people expect me to be one way by where I come from but the look on their faces when they realize who I REALLY am instead of the originally thought, is priceless. I am a very sweet kindhearted person that is always looking out for my friends and doing what is considered right in my eyes, but I don’t let people walk over me. I believe that is what makes me a gypsy girl; I am sweet as perfume yet strong as whiskey. I love to make people laugh. I live my life looking at the glass half full instead of happy empty. Each day is a brand new day to make a difference in your life and others, its just like flipping a page in the book of life.

What are you most passionate about? Why?

I have always had a strong passion for graphic design. I love creating something from scratch, whether it be a blank ad or layout and designing it into something that catches your attention in an original way. I want my work to be unique and original and something that you remember because of what I created. This interest sparked when I was the yearbook editor in high school for several years. It’s a fire that never died out!

If you could inspire one person to love and be their self, what would you say to them?

I would tell them that even on your darkest days there is a possibly for joy. God loves you and no matter what you are going through remember that God wouldn’t bring you to it, without bringing you through it. God also gives his hardest battles to his toughest warriors, because HE knows and has a special plan for life.

It took me a long time to realize that and everything happens for a reason. Just because we don’t see ‘the reason’ right now,  know that it is because there is something much much better in store for you!
