You Get What You Give

I’ve been on both sides of this subject more than I would like to admit, but any human has been at least once in their life. I am still working on it myself personally, but I learn everyday. I guess that is really what life is all about, or at least that is the conclusion that I have gathered thus far.

What I mean specifically, is what you get out of life depends on what you put into life. So often we have the expectation that we should get what we want, when we want it. The problem with this constant desire of instant gratification is that we lose our appreciation of the simple things.

As I stated before I am guilty of these actions, but I have come to the realization that this needs to slow down before I miss out on the good things in my life. The good things that are right in front of my face and under my nose. Some examples I like to use of the “good things” would be family, friends, and the natural world surrounding us.

For so long I thought life was about partying and staying up late. I even thought that I had made so many cool friends living this lifestyle, but looking back I didn’t know anything about life. Once I moved on from this lifestyle my eyes were opened to a whole new world!

I do struggle with holding on to the past and letting petty things bother me from time to time. I have come to realize that if I did not look back and sorta cringe on some of my actions then I would not be learning from them. It doesn’t correct the past by any means, but overall it has made me a stronger and better individual.

From learning to let go of the negatives in the past and use them as positive reminders that I am growing; I feel that I can accomplish so much more. You can only move forward and time does not stop for anyone.

So remember to stop and smell the roses; cherish the things that are already in your life!

My Daily Reminders:

  • Family is SO important!
  • To have a friend you must first be a friend.
  • Your words don’t make you a good person, your actions do.
  • Be less self-centered. Volunteer more and get involved.
  • Go outside! Enjoy the beauty of the natural world.
